Motivation
Woodward L’Orange, in cooperation with City, University of
London, is looking for a foreign doctoral candidate to perform CFD
calculations and model development as part of the EDEM project
(Experimentally validated DNS and LES approaches for fuel
injection, mixing and combustion of dual-fuel engines) – a joint
research training and doctoral program, funded by the EU with
partners in 11 countries (www.edem-itn.eu).
The successful candidate will cooperate with Woodward L’Orange
research facility in Stuttgart, Germany, for a period of max. 28
months and at City in London for a period of 8 months.
Responsibilities of the student will include design of novel
dual-fuel engine injector concepts and implementation of existing
and newly developed models in ANSYS Fluent.
The student will receive his PhD Award from City supervised by
Prof. Manolis Gavaises, coordinator for the EDEM project.
The contract will include a financial package with mobility and
family allowance (if applicable) and will be employed according to
the rules for Early Stage Researchers (ESRs) funded by the EU Marie
Skłodowska-Curie Actions Innovative Training Networks (ITN).
Qualifications
- Must have Master (or equivalent) degree in Mechanical, Chemical
or Marine Engineering, Physics or Chemistry - Must be in the first 4 years of his/her research career,
measured from the date of graduation and must not hold a PhD
degree - Must be knowledgeable in fluid dynamics, engine physics and C++
programming - Must be able to communicate fluently in English, in oral and
written form - Must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work,
studies) in Germany for more than 12 months in the three years
before their appointment – for refugees under the Geneva
Convention, the refugee procedure (i.e. before refugee status is
conferred) will not be counted as period of residence/activity

master’s thesis + two written recommendation letters
