Psychiatry Specialist
For one of our clients, hospital in Sundsvall-Härnösand (Sweden)
we’re looking for Psychiatry Specialist.
• Outpatient or inpatient-care in psychiatry?
o During the first year one usually works at the inpatient-care
unit with a maximum of 14 care places. In inpatient-care one works
in a team, in close collaboration with nurses and carers who can
participate in dialogues with patients and work „on the order of
the doctor“, which means that one receives help to rectify any
linguistic misunderstandings. o (It is necessary to master Swedish
better in order to be able to work independently in outpatient
care. In outpatient care, one meets individual patients on his /
her own.)
• Location
o We have a need at all of our places. Sundsvall, Örnsköldsvik and
Sollefteå. This time it is primarily about Sundsvall (but would
there be someone who would rather want to go to the other resorts,
it can work of course).
• Is it possible to offer employment to a partner with a health
care profession in Region Västernorrland?
o Within the clinic and specialist care, there is opportunity to
offer work to the partner, depending on the occupational category.
We can offer carers, nurses and psychologists job in the clinic,
doctors in other specialties can also be offered (unfortunately we
can not answer directly what specialties are available to receive
doctors from other countries now).
• Introduction
o Internationally recruited doctors usually get a „walk side by
side“ colleague for 6-12 months, depending on how fast they learn
the language and our routines. It usually takes so long before they
are ready to work independently with their own responsibility.
After 2-3 years, they usually are ready for head doctor services,
which include being on-call.
• Description of workplace / focus
o We have five care units in Sundsvall: one for psychosis, one for
the younger with affective states, then one for elderly patients
with affective states, and we have a unit for abuse / addiction and
short-term care, as well as a care unit for the seriously ill with
need for compulsory care. We currently have need for new doctors at
unit 52A, which is an unit for younger patients with affective
states (self-harm, depressions, eating disorders, etc.) and at unit
7 (abuse / addiction and short-term care).
• Initial basic monthly salary / conditions
o So far, we have emloyed those who have received Swedish
legitimation as specialists. During the first 6 months, they have
been employed as specialist doctors and the employment has been
then transferred to a permanent employment contract.
Psychiatry – Västernorrland
o The salary during the first 6 months corresponds to ST (=
trainee)-salary approximately 47.000 SEK, then new salary as
specialist doctor is discussed, approximately 59.000 SEK.
Description of the city where the employment will take place
Sundsvall is the county seat of Västernorrland, geographically
right in the middle of Sweden. So although administratively it is a
part of Northern Sweden, physically it is an excellent location.
More than 56,000 people live here. There is an airport near the
city (24km, Timrå).

reachable on phone – proof of English (/ Swedish) language
